Goat's Rue (Galega Officinalis)
In mainland Europe goat's rue or French Lilac is used by nursing mothers to stimulate milk production. Goat's rue was found to be rich in guanidine, a substance with blood glucose-lowering activity that formed the chemical basis of metformin, an insulin sensitising drug, introduced in 1957.
