Andrographis was believed to have helped to stop the 1919 flu epidemic in India that followed the 1918 Spanish Influenza outbreak in America and Europe. In 2010 a study investigating andrographolide stated that: "Andrographolide can modulate the immune responses by regulating macrophage phenotypic polarization and Ag-specific antibody production. MAPK and PI3K signaling pathways may participate in the mechanisms of andrographolide regulating macrophage activation and polarization." Andrographis strengthens and modulates the immune system to help us to deal more effectively with bacterial and with viral infections. It is particularly beneficial for respiratory infections.
